Great interview. I've learned so much from Syd and from all of the other great sites like this that I'm being led to. I started blogging about women and retirement two months ago (I have two more months to go until I retire) and it's been the support of other women that's been helping me figure out not so much the financial pieces connected to retirement (I'm a public servant type with a good pension)as with the personal adjustments and travails of entering a whole new part of life. It's one I'm really looking forward to for sure.

Very good interview. Having retired at age 49 I can certainly relate. Now at age 64 I still love being able to do what I want when I want, the only way to live.

PS, you sometimes wonder how you found time to go to work.

Hi Syd,
What a great interview. It's a good reality check to see how much planning goes into retiring. You're so smart!!!!

Guinness,

I think a balance between some goals and a flexible (or none existent) structure is a good idea. Now it is not to say your goals have to be huge or anything (after all I would say blogging counts) but something to drive you a bit would be a good idea over the long haul.

At the start, hell, give yourself a year to decompress and relax. Work sucks and it takes a while to purge that feeling. Then you can think about some goals.

Syd,

Not a problem. Thanks for the interesting interview. It was fun!

Sydney you inspire me. I am also an accountant and was fascinated by retirement software. At first retirement was 65, then became 55 and now I am aiming to retire comfortably at 54.

Great interview, Tim, and congrats on doing things your way Sydney! It's always good to see her advocate lack of structure and so forth. That's how the early retirees of my acquaintance live their lives. But it's rare in the blogosphere, and frankly I find all the type-a "I will always want to do something useful" "I dream of being freelance" stuff amusing and even alienating to a degree.
